Public Opinion and Propaganda -Insights on polling and communicating findings Do The Math -The average poll has about 1,000 respondents. Many national surveys occur weekly.  -In an election cycle, polling dollars go into the multi-millions as candidates seek to tap into public thinking and ways to  capture an audience Are Polls Accurate? -Political polling is a type of public opinion polling. Is an accurate social science with strict rules about sample size, random  selection of participants, and margins of error.  -Even the best public opinion poll is only a snapshot of public opinion at the particular moment in time, not an eternal truth.  -Statistically, response rate and sample size are key.  Random Sampling A poll can more accurately measure the preferences of an entire country if the sample is random Margin of error: Can be reduced by increasing sample size of poll. You would need a sample size of 10,000 people to reduce margin of error to 1%.  Relying on polling averages  Polling errors occur through faulty demographic models  Types of Polls Benchmark poll: Take a snapshot at the beginning of an election cycle. Where is public opinion before a race really begins?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
