Does Preventive Medicine Save Money In the Long Run? In today’s health care environment, a large amount of ailments stems from lifestyle, preventable choices such as cigarettes, and obesity. With so many diseases from preventable choices in a person’s life, there stems a question does preventive medicine save money, and lives in the long term? Preventive medicine doesn’t actually save as much money as generally though, but can save lives through its practice. Preventive medicine actually doesn’t as much tax payer money as generally believed, but can save lives in the long term. A study conducted in the journal Health Affairs, stated that “ If 90 percent of the U.S. population used proven preventive services, only .2 percent of healthcare spending would be saved” (Begle y , “Think Preventive Medicine Will Save Money?”). Although it is true that utilizing preventive care can identify long term ailments, the screening process to identify these ailments, is not cheap. The process may utilize the use of multiple tests being run, the use of expensive machinery, and seeing numerous doctors. Also, preventive care does not benefit anyone, since not everyone is predisposed to specific diseases. “ Currently, many people
