2016-09-24 Software Development Process Management A handy guide for Project Manager Agamani Parida Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering Abstract This paper touches the high level concepts of Process Management in software development area and explains different steps involved in a Software Development cycle. It highlights the areas which all Project Manager should consider while dealing different Software Development Life Cycle. Furthermore, it also covers the different best practices a Software Engineering should follow to keep track of the different state of the Software Development. Finally, the paper emphasizes the importance of Project Manager in success of any Software Development Process. Introduction After more than five decades of Software development’s evolution, Software Development Process Management is considered as one of the most important thing for any Software Development process. This is like of art of managing all aspects of projects from inception to closure. With lot of competition in the software space, the process of software development focus more on producing “state-of-the-art” products in less time but with less money and higher quality. To control the variables such as “Time” and “Money” what we need is, a tried and tested Project Management process and a capable Project Manager who can successfully deliver the projects. That’s the reason project management has established itself as a new discipline and project manager has become a demanding profession. Another reality of business today is that Software has become an integral part factor in the way businesses are run. A growing demand for quality software development has made Software Development Process Management, one of the must haves for any Software Development. This can dramatically improve the productivity of any project whether large or small. Overview of Software management Software Management is the science which defines and achieves the targets while optimizing the use of resources over the course of a project. To execute this, you need a Project manager who controls and regulates the whole process end to end. The complete lifecycle of software development can be subdivided in to smaller milestones and the project manager controls each one of the milestones efficiently and make sure each part finish in timely manner and the at the same time keeping an eye on the future milestones.
