04.02 Identify Theme Worksheet Luke Bridges Title of Novel Choice I chose to read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald along with my  comparison choices were the poem The Roaring 20’s by Kenn Allan and a  piece on The Wall Street Crash of 1929. Theme Statement The theme of The Great Gatsby is that money is everything and with it you  could do anything you want with no consequences. Crimes was overlooked, there were no morals as many husbands and wives were having affairs.  Greed was prevalent and it didn’t matter who you hurt on the way to getting what you wanted.  Secondary Source with 3 Citation 1. The poem has a phrase that explains how a lot of people acted during  this timeframe.  “As moral suppression and greed declared war”.  This  talked about when husbands and wives were having affairs on each other.  It was ok that they were cheating but not for their spouses to be cheating.
