Basic Information The Coral Gables City Hall, located in Miami, Florida in the city of Coral Gables is a historical site. You can locate this building by looking for the large statue of George Merrick located on the front of the building, who is the founder of Coral Gables and of City Hall. George Merrick built this city from the ground up with the dream that it would always remain with the same architecture and philosophies. Coral Gables was actually one of the first planned communities in the nation back in the 1920s and in 1937s, it was one of the first cities in Florida to adopt a Historical Resources Ordinance. George Merrick’s accomplishment of building this city landed him a lot of recognition and historical significance. The City decided that in order to remember all that Merrick did, they would build a statute. The statue of George Merrick was unveiled on May 23, 2006; it is 14 feet tall and bronze.
