Post Lab #15 1. The polystyrene created was slightly yellow, clear, hard, and not very flexible. This polymer seemed to be the hardest of all the polymers created in the lab. It was also insoluble in acetone and soluble in water. The glyptal resin created was a yellowish-brown color, and it resembled a sheet of cracked glass after cooling, and it was very fragile. It was soluble in acetone and insoluble in H 2 O. 2. With the polymerization of the styrene to form polystyrene, the double bonds between the CH and CH 2 groups in styrene now become single bonds, and, in doing so, the singles bonds allow for a greater number of monomers to become attached, and so it forms the polymer polystyrene. 3. There were many different observations on the effects of cross-linking made tchroughout the experiment. With glyptal resin formation, cross-linking resulted in a harder and tougher polymer. Furthermore, the compounds used, phtalic acid, sodium acetate, and glycerol, when cross-linked, resulted in a harder and tougher polymer. Similarly, with the Elmer’s glue polymer, cross-linking resulted

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
