Wind Data analysis for the Evaluation of an Offshore Site John Worthley, [email protected], 10 September, 2017 Abstract Availability is an important performance index for wind turbines today. Both failure rate and repair rate can help predict wind turbine performance over time. Location specific sources of wind turbine data can be used to estimate parameters of the wind quality at certain locations. With known wind speeds, this study can help determine optimal locations and materials for wind turbines to generate the most profit possible in terms of both location and wind turbine utility. Wind speed date from a wind farm is analyzed as an example, and compared to previous wind farm statistics. This work can be helpful in planning timely and cost-effective location specific consideration for wind turbines. Introduction Wind energy is increasing in the United States because over 61,000 MW of operating assets are being produced per year. 2 In some regions, the percentage of electricity due to wind energy can now exceed 50% on some systems. Throughout the entire country, wind energy produced 4.13% of total U.S. electricity production in 2013 alone. 2 From 2008-2013, U.S. wind energy capacity grew from 25,000 megawatts (MW) to over 61,000 MW, a 140 percent growth rate. While electricity generation rose from a rate of

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
