Literary Analysis: Oedipus the King
In Sophocles ¨Oedipus the king¨, Oedipus had a problem, he had a curse that could only be
solved by finding the killer of Laius, the one who was the previous king. Oedipus decided to find the killer
of Laius, but though all the citizens he questioned, one blind profit told him that Oedipus killed him.
After Oedipus heard this, his wife Jocasta tell him not believe on profits, because they are not always
right. Jocasta tell Oedipus how a profit told Laius and her that day were going to have a child who will kill
Laius and sleep with her, but Laius had that kid killed, and she believed that the prophecy did not came
through. Oedipus remembers that he was adopted as a child, and he has killed a man before at the cross
roads, where Laius was killed. Oedipus goes to ask a messenger and a shepherd, who may know who his
real parents were, and then Jocasta realize that she is Oedipus mother and that Laius is his father, and
then she kills herself. When Oedipus knows the truth he takes his eyes out, and leave Thebes. The
