Caroline Snow 09-08-17 BA 724: Managing Service Case Studies: Chapter 1: Page 16: “Cultivating Culture” FACTS: Ed Hastings had just been named the president and CEO of Victory Restaurants, Inc., a 600-unit casual dining restaurant chain. Of the 600 restaurants, 100 are company-owned and 500 are franchised. He used to be the senior vice president of marketing for one of the company’s other business units. While he was successful in his previous position, his boss, Greg Benson felt that he would be perfect for the chain. His job was to turn the restaurant around. His plan was to energize the employees and began to sit down and think of slogans, mottos and mantras that would be good to use. He developed a plan and began to jot his ideas down on paper. His ideas included: Call employees “teammates” not employees Change the building sign from “World Headquarters” to “Victory Team Resource Center” Get rid of the “headquarters know best” attitude Ask managers of company-owned units
