Unit 8 Text Questions Text Questions 1. What are detention and correctional facilities? How are they different? Detention and correctional facilities are both kinds of prisons. Detention facilities deal with people who have been arrested and are going through processing or awaiting trial. Correctional facilities are where individuals are sent after being convicted, this is where they serve out their sentence. Detention facilities are different than correctional facilities because the individuals here have not had a trial yet while individuals at a correctional facilities have and are now serving out their sentences. 2. What is parole? Who makes the decisions about parole? Parole is release of the prisoner temporarily or perminently before the completion of the sentence. Who makes the decision depends on which government has jurisdiction over the prisoner. 3. Describe a typical inmate in a prison in the United States.
