Unit 7 Text Questions Text Questions 1. What are the two models of the criminal justice system that Packer identified? Describe each model. The two models of the criminal justice system that Packer identified are the crime control model and the due process model. The crime control model indicates that the criminal justice system has the goal of apprehending and punishing those who commit crimes. The most important feature of this model is to reduce or even stop crime in society. This model assumes that individuals arrested are guilty and stresses processing and convicting offenders as efficiently and effectively as possible. The due process model argues that the criminal justice system has to protect suspects from the errors and the abuses that can occur in the system. This model views the criminal justice system as having many errors that could occur as suspects are arrested and sentenced. 2. What is community policing? The system of allocating police officers to particular areas so that they become familiar with the local inhabitants. 3. What are police-community relations programs? The emphasis in community policing is to have law enforcement and the community work together to determine what the community needs and how to fulfill these needs. In other words,
