Sherry’s purpose for writing this essay was to convince teachers and parents that failing a student or threating to fail a student can be a motivation for the student to do better. I don’t believe that there are students who should be excluded, because with effort any student can be successful. 4. Sherry calls the threat of failure a positive teaching tool, because it shows students that if there is no effort put forth, then they will be held accountable. 6. Yes, I believe that the threat of failure is a great motivation for students to do better, and yes Sherry is correct a lot times students know that the threat of being failed is an idol threat. I think that things have changed, and teachers have become more comfortable with failing a student that did not apply themselves. “In Praise of the “F” Word Evaluating strategy Pg. 483 2.
