Lesson Plan #1 Author: Tian Zhou Class:  M4 (8 th  graders) Context: Urban Private School, five students, novice high/intermediate low Unit (Theme/ Central Focus): How to decribe weather conditions?  Lesson (Aim): Ask weather conditions Duration:  55 minutes Standards: ACTFL Standards: Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. Standard 1.3: Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics. Standard 3.1 Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language. Standard 3.2: Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures. Standard 5.1: Students use the language both within and beyond the school setting. Objectives: Functional  Objective(s)  SWBAT describe weather conditions and how they feel under  each weather condition. SWBAT compare and present the weather condition between  cities of China and U.S. SWBAT ask and answer about weather conditions  referring to weather report . SWBAT initiate conversation to discuss on the day of field trip  referring to the weather condition. Language: Vocabulary: 1. 暖和  warm 2.  hot 3.  cold 4. 凉快  cool 5. 下雨  rain 6. 下雪  snow 7. 刮风  wind 8. 多云  cloudy Structures: 1. 的时候  during 2. 今天天气怎么样? how Other  (Cultural,  subject  content, etc.) Students will compare the differences between the weather of cities of  Chinese and American. 1

Expected  Evidence of  Learning  (Assessment) Procedures: Do Now-Review the season words 5 min The students will review the season words ( 春天,夏天,秋天,冬天 ) with the  teacher. Students will come up to the board to write the words down. Word study 10 min The Students will have a sheet with season words on the left and pictures on the  right and they will try to match them. Teacher will introduce the new words referring to flash cards:    暖和     凉快     潮湿 Match the weather word with the right season.  The students will add a word  that they think is approrite after the season word to describe its characteristcis.  They will expand the following phrases:  春天  spring ____ 夏天  summer ____ 冬天  winter____ 秋天  fall____ e.g.  One possible anwer might be  春天冷  sping cold .
