World Issues Study Notes 1. What does Perspective mean? Socio-economic status and life experiences Includes where do you sit on the political spectrum 2. What does Socio-economic status mean? A measure of an individual’s or group’s position in a community, is determined by such factors as your parents occupation, income, education , and place of residence 3. What does Life experiences mean? Your gender, ethnic background, age, schooling, religious belief, and the places you have lived in and visited determine your life experiences 4. What is Political bias (conservative vs liberal)? 5. What are World issues? Issues that are multifaceted and usually have or involve: o Concern or anxiety is generated o Complex causes and solutions o Interrelated environmental, social, political and economic components\ o Groups of people with different points of view (which can often lead to conflict) o People unwilling to compromise o Local, national, and/or global implications 6. What is the difference between Mainstream and alternative media? Media: forms of mass communication – for example, newspapers, television, radio, and the internet – and the people involved in their production.
