NY TIMES NEWSPAPER: IS IT A CULTURAL INFLUENCE OR AN INFLUENTIAL ON CULTURE? Introduction I. When is the last time you saw someone reading the newspaper? Almost three-fifths of all American adults still read the newspapers every day, however there is a mix of how the newspapers are read; such as reading them online. The ways that we use media are changing which in turn is changing our habits. Not only is the way that we view the news changing but so is the news that is being covered. The NY Times has changed its recording of the news over the years from the way it uses advertising and the way it spins the news. A New York Times Past and the way things used to be 1 The New York Time has been published in New York City since September 18, 1851. 2 “The New York Times has been organized into the following sections: News, Editorials/Opinions-Columns/Op-Ed, New York (metropolitan), Business, Sports of The Times, Arts, Science, Styles, Home, Travel, and other features.” 3 The New York Times used the broadsheet full page set-up layout with eight columns. “The New York Times printed a display advertisement on its first page on January 6, 2009, breaking tradition at the paper.” 4 In August 2014, The Times decided to use the word "torture" to define events in which interrogators "inflicted pain on a prisoner in an

effort to get information." This was a shift from the paper's previous practice of describe such practices as "harsh" or "brutal" interrogations.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
