Eichman 1 Stephanie Eichman Professor Tim Hillis Political Science 002 1 April 2016 Comparative Politics Analysis: Key Terms and Concepts Investigating how countries function, how leaders stay in power, and what elements hold a country together, the study of comparative politics uses key terms to explain the theories which guide real political systems. This essay seeks to identify and explain the concepts essential to understanding the analysis of comparative politics. First, comparative politics examines the inner workings of countries and how they operate. Among various government systems, comparative politics scholars study democracies, dictatorships and monarchies. Democracies support the will of the majority and often, to varying extents, capitalism is embedded in such societies. Governments which follow democratic rule are often modernized and allow for the development of human rights. Many, but not all, citizens of democratic countries are able to move beyond poverty and establish a comfortable lifestyle. In contrast, people living under dictatorships or authoritarian regimes are subject to the whim of their leader. These forms of government typically limit the rights of their people and may
