How do Environmental factors limit Growt & Survival? (mix of the following) Physical resources: the inorganic materials or energy that organisms require for existence (food, water) Physical factors (abiotic)- physical conditions that affect growth and survival Coping with Environmental Variation -Organisms must survive and reproduce successfully in the envt they live in, or leave and move somewhere else where they can do this -Organisms are best adapted to the envt conditions where their surivial and reproduction is optimal Adaptation - (the end result of natural selection) -Any heritable trait (genetically based) that enhances the survival and reproduction of an org in a given envt -Can be physiological, morphological, or behavioral -Cost/benefits. Specialization=expensive, and no organism can max fitness in all envts Fitness - how well an organism survives and reproduces Physiological adaptations alter organisms tolerance limits? -Tolerance limit determined by biochemical, physio, morph characteristics -envt can cause impacts on organisms internal conditions if exceed tolerance limits Two possibilities for physio adaptations: 1. Tolerance to a wide range of internal conditions (wood frog) 2. Mech that counteract external challenge so internal homeostasis is maintained (energetic cost) d Temperature and Water Avail are Universally Important (illustrate fundamental princ of adaptation) Temp - directly affects rates of all physio and biochemical rxns

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
