The patient is a 23 yr old female, has a 2-day history of frequency, dysuria and slight haematuria. She complained of suprapubic pain, but there is no vaginal discharge. Following microscopy and culture a second sample was requested.’ 1) Discuss the factors affecting laboratory diagnosis and suggest possible reasons why a second sample was requested. Indicate the most commonly isolated organisms from these samples and what would be expected given the patients clinical details.
