NUR 275 – MN-Peds Week 4 Vocab Word Definition Chapter 21 Amnioinfusion method in which isotonic fluid is instilled into the amniotic cavity in order to thin thick meconium that has passed into the amniotic fluid. It has been used to reduce meconium aspiration syndrome, though evidence of benefit is mixed. Arrest disorders Complete cessation of progress during labor. Cesarean birth the surgical birth of the fetus through an incision in the abdomen and uterine wall and is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States Dystocia abnormal or difficult labor, can be influenced by a vast number of maternal and fetal factors. Forceps stainless-steel instruments, similar to tongs, with rounded edges that fit around the fetus’s head. Can be used to assist during delivery. Hypertonic uterine dysfunction Contractions are ineffectual, erratic and poorly coordinated because they involve only a portion of the uterus. The uterus never fully relaxes between contractions. Hypotonic uterine dysfunction occurs during active labor (dilation more than 5 to 6 cm) when contractions become poor in quality and lack sufficient intensity to dilate and efface the cervix. Labor induction Procedure used to stimulate uterine contractions before labor begins on its own. Macrosomia Newborn who is significantly larger than average. Multifetal pregnancy Two or more babies in uterus. Precipitate labor Very rapid birth due to uterus contracting frequently and with much intensity.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
