Define thinking Mental activities and processes associated with thinking, knowing, remembering and communicating information Thinking : the active process of mentally ‘working with’ information to solve problems 2. Explain what a concept is Concept : a mental grouping of similar objects, events, states, ideas, and/or people, etc. often formed through: o Prototypes : mental image or best example o Fuzzy: concepts can be fuzzy when the boundaries are not clear 3. Describe methods used to solve problems Problem Solving: refers to the thinking we do in order to answer a complex question or to figure out how to resolve an unfavorable situation o Algorithms : an algorithm is a step-by-step strategy for solving a problem, methodically leading to a specific solution o Heuristics : a heuristic is a short cut, step-saving thinking strategy or principle, which generates a solution quickly (but possibly in error) o Insight
