Negation To make a sentence negative, place the word "no" before the verb. Ella no habla inglés. She doesn't speak English. Él no es profesor. He is not a professor. To make a sentence negative, use negative words. Study the following list of affirmative words and their negative counterparts: POSITIVE NEGATIVE ALGO (SOMETHING ) Ex: Hay algo afuera. There is something outside NADA (NOTHING) Ex: No hay nada en el refrigerador . There is nothing in the refrigerator Algo something and nada nothing are invariable and refer to things and objects . ALGUIEN (SOMEBODY) Ex: Invité a alguien a salir. I asked someone out NADIE (NOBODY) Ex: No defiendo a nadie. I don't defend anybody Alguien "someone" and nadie "no one" are invariable and refer to people. ALGÚN (-O, -A, -OS, -AS) (SOME, SOMETHING) Ex: Algún día venderemos millones. Some day we'll sell millions . NINGÚN (-O, -A, -OS, -AS) (NO, NONE) Ex: Ningún producto está fallado. None of the products is damaged
