Exploring Natural History (ENH) exercise Due Wednesday 30 January 2008 If you are willing to participate in the Exploring Natural History educational research project, please fill out the pre-questionnaire ( http://lessons.ummu.umich.edu/2k/enh_winter08/survey_001_01 ) before doing this homework assignment. The homework is required; filling out the questionnaire is not. In order to be part of this research, you also need to have signed the consent form I passed out in class (let me know if you need one of these). Thank you very much for making our research possible! This is an individual (not group) project; make sure yours is not copied from anyone else’s work. How does community structure differ in terrestrial and aquatic habitats? http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/quaardvark/ In this Exploring Natural History exercise you’ll explore trophic interactions in two very different habitats: grasslands vs. lakes/ponds. You will characterize major differences in food webs, taxonomic makeup, and dominant feeding strategies of these two systems. You will use the data querying tool of the Animal Diversity Web (ADW) to extract information on animals in these two kinds of habitats and then you will compare them. To begin, go to the ADW querying interface ( http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/quaardvark/ ) and register (directions on-site), then log in to begin your query.
