Lab A: Young’s Modulus --- Elasticity in Length Objective To determine Young’s Modulus of elasticity of a thin wire by stretching. Background Hooke’s Law is the relationship between force and deformation. Over a considerable distance, the deformation of a body by a force is proportional to the magnitude of the force. Procedure 1. Place a bubble level at the bottom platform of the apparatus, and adjust the three legs to make sure the legs are at the same level. 2. Place the 1kg weight pan on the lower end of the wire. 3. Adjust the micrometer screw to make the bubble to the center of the level that is attached on the bridge of the apparatus. Record the initial reading of the micrometer screw in data table 1. 4. Measure the length of the wire using a ruler and the diameter of the wire using a micrometer, and record the values in the data table. 5. Add 7kg to the weight pan, one kg at a time. For each added weight, adjust the micrometer screw so that the bubble is back to the center of the level, and record the reading of the micrometer screw in data table 1.

What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
