Ivette Moreno 10/7/16 HIST 1301 Online The Declaration of Independence is important to me and to american history because we got our independence from it. The Declaration of Independence was a document signed by the thirteen original colonies where they began their bid for and gained their independence from Great Britain. On July 2, 1776 a committee was appointed to write a draft for the Declaration of Independence at the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. On July 2, 1776 a resolution was adopted, “that these United Colonies are, and, of right, ought to be, free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown and that all political connexion between them and the state of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.” On July 4, Congress approved the Declaration of Independence; it provided a formal justification for this resolution. The final document had two parts: the first part of the Declaration stated
