Armani Pediford History 100 Mr. Chaikel 09/25/2016 Ramses The Battle of Kadesh About 3300 years ago the Egyptian empire and the Hittite empire fought for Control over the land known today as Syria. For the first 100 years of Egypt's empire they were a nonmilitant society; other than the occasional civil wars for control of the land Nubia. Egypt felt it was no need for a strong military due to the surrounding deserts and Mediterraneans protecting them from invasions. Egypt also believed to be the richest land known to world so they didn’t have any desire to conquest. Egypt’s Peace era would eventually come to an end. By 1700 b.c. Rulers of foreign lands conquered lower Egypt. The battle of Kadesh was fought around 1274 b.c. The battle was fought just outside of Kadesh at the river of Orontes. The battle of Kadesh was a lengthy battle lead by two commanders Ramses II of Egypt and Muwatalli II of the Hittite empire.
