1. Americans are guaranteed certain rights according to the U.S. Constitution especially in regards to criminal justice. They are the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth amendments. The Fourth protects citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures. The Fifth protects citizens against self-incrimination and double jeopardy. The Sixth guarantees a citizen’s right to counsel and a fair trial. The Eighth protects citizens against excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments. I will now examine how the Fourth amendment is defined. The Fourth protects against unreasonable searches and seizures. It limits the ability of law enforcement agencies to search a person or property in order to obtain evidence of criminal activity. It also limits the ability of the police to detain a person without reason. A seizure is defined as when law enforcement agents take an individual into custody or prevent and individual from leaving a location. It does not prevent law enforcement agents from conducting searches or making arrests but it does protect
