TIAA CREF is the fourth largest manager of 401 K type plan assets in the United States, following Vanguard, Fidelity, and Blackrock. From 2002 to 2016, TIAA CREF has on average made nearly twenty nine billion dollars of investments annually for the General Account. The TIAA General Account invests in a broadly diversified portfolio that enables the company to pursue long term returns for the account while also providing the stability and liquidity needed to support the company's guaranteed annuity products.
