The documentary AClass Divided really hit a nerve for me. I am extremely proactive on equality and watching this video really hurt my heart. I am so ashamed to be a part of a society that treats people in this way. I do believe the teacher is right to teach this lesson because unfortunately it is not something instilled in us from day one. Racism and discrimination is a learned behavior and is something that is taught, but I believe it is important for everyone to understand what it feels like to be discriminated against. Especially for something out of your control like eye color or skin color. The message seems to be widely accepted by the numerous groups of children this has been conducted on. I support this message, but am not sure if children are the right age group because it can raise some ethical concerns. I believe it helps that they were 3rdgraders and not any younger, but they are still young enough to change their ways once shown how it feels to be treated in such a way. The ethical issues that might be brought up are that the children can’t necessarily consent to this, although they did cooperate and willingly accept these roles.
