Weckerly 1 Ryan Weckerly Professor Stein-Savelski ENG 102 March 19, 2016 Chinese Culture in “A Pair of Tickets” The short story I will discuss in my essay is Amy Tan’s “A Pair of Tickets” My paper title will be “Chinese Culture in ‘A Pair of Tickets’” I will talk about the cultural symbols that Amy Tan expresses through the story. Also I will explain how Tan uses cultural symbols to express her feelings and how it controls her decisions and the effect on the story. Her aunt says “Once you are born Chinese you cannot help but feel and think Chinese” though by the end of the story she in fact narrates as a modern American women. The story title “A Pair of Tickets” pretty much gives an idea off the start of a journey which starts with the purchase of tickets obviously going back to China to see her family.
