Dana 11/14/16 AD Supermoon On November 14, 2016, at 8:52 am, the supermoon, or the Beaver Moon was expected to reach the peak of its full phase. The supermoon is when the moon is at its closest point of approach in its orbit around the Earth. The supermoon was originally called the Beaver Moon because Algonquin Native American tribes, as well as American colonists said “this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs” says Old Farmer’s Almanac.
