Key Findings Canadian Venture Capital Investments HIGHLIGHTS Canadian venture capital disbursements in the first half of 2017 totalled $1.54 billion over 231 financings, of which $629 million went to Ontario companies, $444 million to Quebec companies and $393 million to BC companies. Driven by mega deals, Quebec leads all provinces in deal average at $11.1 million. City of Toronto leads all cities, receiving $445 million in VC disbursements. Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, the top three ranked municipal cities, secured $1.15 billion in total, or 74.8% of all VC disbursements. USA is the biggest and the most important foreign backer of Canadian companies. US Investors invested $608 million or 39.5% of all VC disbursements, just shy of the $697 million invested by all Canadian investors. USA, China, Singapore, Netherlands and Switzerland round up as the top five foreign investors, accounting for 47.9% of total VC disbursements. VC funds lead all investor types with $616 million or 40% of all disbursements. US VC funds leads with $439
