Assignment (To be completed at the end of Lesson 7) Answer the following questions: 1. What social changes took place in China during the Warring States period? Politicians became puppets for warlords who wanted total control as well as the development of multiple schools of thought designed to prevent the social and political decay. Warlords started to find new ways to fortify their personal authority and basic power over their states. They trained armies out of the common people. Some warlords sought the advice of non-aristocrats anything that could help them gain an edge over their opponent, such as ruling not based on the traditional ways but by manipulation of control through violence. 2. How did the changes that you list above affect Chinese society of this period? It caused the focus of family and the old traditional ways (ancestral worship) to diminish and instead loyalty to one’s ruler was the order of the day. 3.
