Three Purposes of Organizational Goals Goals orient organizational members and set guidelines for their activity by depicting a future state of affairs which the organization strives to achieve. Goals provide a source of legitimacy for organizational activities and organizational existence.

THREE TYPES OF ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS Ideological goals are best understood on the normative level, as the most abstract and sometimes least conscious motivators of our behaviors. Policy goals are more delineated and more specific than ideological goals. Finally, technical goals may be seen as goals governing the execution of tasks in pursuit of policy goals and normative goals.
