Adoption studies show individuals are more at risk if a biological parent exhibits schizophrenia than if their adoptive parent exhibits schizophrenia. For example, Amanda’s biological mother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and Amanda’s friends adoptive mother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia as well. Amanda’s at a higher risk than her friend is because Amanda’s mother is her biological mother. The role that dopamine plays in schizophrenia is that schizophrenia is related to an excess amount of dopamine. Basically, dopamine and schizophrenia have a relation; schizophrenia can be caused if there is an excess amount of dopamine present.
