Emily Ervin September 15, 2017 English Comp. 1 Professor Gardner Movie Poster Analysis Subliminal messaging in advertisements is a huge part of marketing and has been around for as long as the industry itself has. The main purpose of this marketing scheme is to make people have subconscious feelings about an item, person or subject. The different emotions that it can cause are minute and are hardly ever recognized by the conscious mind, and yet, said emotions affect people so greatly that there is often some amount of interest sparked in what is being advertised. Although both are very different in many ways, both of the two posters for An Inconvenient Truth have details that can ultimately create subliminal feelings that catch the attention of those viewing the pictures. While most movie posters are simple and get the point across quickly, the posters for this documentary force people to think a little more about what they are seeing and play on peoples’ feelings and ideas. Most subliminal messages might try and project different topics such as violence, drugs, alcohol, or sex, but the posters shown for An Inconvenient Truth seem to project fear onto the subconscious. While both posters for this movie are vague and do not give too much information
