Impetigo: Two forms Manifestations . Usually goes along with eczema. HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS. Bullous Impetigo : small vesicles that can progress to bullae. Filled with fluid and later pustular. Rapid rupture leaving shiny lesions with scaly rings. Crusted Impetigo : Initially vesicles/pustule rupture to become erosions with an honey-colored crust. Bleed easily when crust is removed. Mildly itchy (pruritic) Scarring uncommon. Lesions usually located around mouth and nose but can appear anywhere. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is common in dark-skinned children. ** Preschoolers and toddlers, usually recovering from URI. Usually occurs in hot humid summer months.** Medications Topical antibiotics or systemic antibiotics. Severe cases- IV antibiotics. Care plan Assess: Size, distribution and spread of impetigo lesions. If on systemic antibiotics, monitor for signs of adverse effects: rashes, diarrhea. Check for periorbital edema or blood in urine (suggests acute glomerulonephritis if caused by Group A strep.) DX:
