Chem 1045 The Properties of Gases 1 of 6 The Properties of Gases Part A Charles’ Law Charles’ Law: You will monitor the volume of a sample of gas (air) as the temperature is increased. The air is trapped in a tube of small diameter by a plug of mercury. Measure the length of the air column with a ruler at 0 o C, 25 o C, 35 o C, 50 o C, 65 o C, 75 o C and 95 o C (do not have to use these exact temperatures).

The pressure will be monitored by a pressure probe and the data displayed with the MeasureNet system. First, calibrate the pressure sensor and then move the syringe plunger in and out to obtain pressure readings at 15 different volumes. Record: The pressure readings recorded from the MeasureNet station are the sensor pressure readings.
