Of ingredients (ketchup) Fresh foods such as fruits and veggies the USDA EPA controls levels of pesticides on foods FCC regulates advertising/ can get info on ads that aren’t on labels Appropriate for adults and children over 4 Allowed to have health claims on them (controversial) FDA Center for bio eval and research Center for devices and radiological health Center for Drug eval and research- responsible for every prescription drug Center for food safety and applied nutrition w/ CDCP- Food-borne illnesses Nutritional adequacy of foods Environmental contaminants- overlaps EPA Naturally occurring toxicants- hard to keep track of Pesticide residues Food additives- looked at very critically Center for veterinary meds- all animal and livestock feed and meds National Center for toxicological research FDA Mandated labels- Serving size Number of servings Calories Calories from fat #’s are fudge factors, 20% standard deviation
