Running head: ENHANCED SYNTHESIS PAPER1Enhanced Synthesis PaperLisamarie BeltranGrand Canyon University: RES-811October 25, 2017
2ENHANCED SYNTHESIS PAPERReflectionA part of the revision process included some feedback from my family, as well as from my peers, and professor. I was not able to engage as much as I would have liked to, as it would have enabled me to be more critiqued and help my paper overall. By receiving feedback from multiple viewpoints and sources, I am within the ability to refine my work by taking into consideration and implementing the critiques and reviews of those who would read it and using the feedback to better formulate my scholarly work. Some themes emerged when I was analyzing the review of my work and after receiving feedback. 1.) key components of a writing process are focus and direction. The reader needs a clear understanding of your position or ideas and some information that may be thought to be boring or useless, might help guide them. 2.) Making sure the theme is written clearly and into the fabric of the paper is also key as one should hope to see a consistent theme woven throughout. 3.) more in-depth analysis makes the difference when synthesizing and feedback helps with this very much. More information not only provides more in-depth analysis, but can help solidify the key concepts/topics being discussed in the paper. 4.) Finally, I will use the feedback I received from earlier assignments from my professor to revisit key concepts I wrote about in my paper. Also, I close by outlining limitations to the studies synthesized and describe the direction the research should continue with.
3ENHANCED SYNTHESIS PAPERThe development of the doctoral student’s writing identity can have multiple influences and will ensure that the student is working towards growth. This paper will discuss three articlesand three common themes that run throughout each. Among the factors that are discussed are self-study, obstacles and challenges that come from participation in doctoral studies, and Mythology. The articles focus on academic success, relationships within the doctoral programs, and thus transitioning in to professional success from a doctoral student in their doctoral programs. Developing a doctoral identity can be frightening and very overwhelming at times due tosome of the academic processes you are asked to delve into. New academic processes weresomewhat a new concept to doctoral students since it is very different from an undergraduateprogram. The research conducted by Baker and Pifer (2011), Colbeck (2008), Gardner (2009),Malfroy and Yates (2003), and Smith and Hatmaker (2015) all focus on answering one question.Do doctoral programs need to be looked at to determine what can be done to improve thestructure? Each study gives suggestions on which dimensions of program structure are workingand what need to be improved. Each study’s goal was to give feedback and suggestions growth.
