Assignment 3 Katerina Schwindt Sept. 14, 2017 EDUC 340 The Impact of Childhood Abuse And Neglect on Adult Mental Health Allan V. Horwitz & Others Does abuse and neglect have a long term effect on one’s mental health? This article addresses this question through a study. They created a psychological experiment with a group of men and women from 1967-1971. They had a control group (men and women that were “non-abused” selected through school records). Also, a variable group (men and women that were “abused and neglected” selected through official court records). The purpose of the study was to determine that childhood victimization results in poor mental health. Poor mental health includes depression, alcoholism, and personality disorder. Another reason for this study was to find out if childhood victimization correlates with lifetime stressors like unemployment, disorganization or family isolation. The last goal was to see whether childhood victimization had different impressions on men and women.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
