Orr 1 Suzanna Orr Mr. Anderson Course Number Wednesday, June 21, 2017 Bringing Up Baby The first time I saw the film Bringing Up Baby , I was twelve or thirteen years old. It was a rainy day and I was bored because I could not go out and play with my friends. My mother suggested that I watch one of her favorite old black and white films. She said that it would be something good and funny to watch. Of course, at the age that I was I didn’t think that an old black and white movie could be good or funny. I wanted something more modern to watch. I did end up watching the movie though and was proven wrong almost immediately. I laughed hysterically the whole time. When I saw that it was on the list of suggested films to write my first paper on, I knew there was no other option. The comedy, Bringing Up Baby was written by Dudley Nichols (“For Whom the Bell Tolls” -1943, “The Fugitive” -1941) and Hagar Wilde. The film was directed by “The Silver Fox” (IMDB) Howard Hanks (“Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” -1953). Bringing Up Baby stars Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. RKO Radio Pictures was the production company for the film. As a side note, this was the last time that Katharine Hepburn did a motion picture with RKO Radio Pictures. I would also like to mention that Howard Greer (“Lady on a Train” -1945) was the costume designer. I think that Howard Greer did a fantastic job on all of Hepburn’s clothes that she wore in the film. I especially like the outfit she wore in the scene where she is sewing David’s jacket. It is an adorable little polka dot pants suit.
Orr 2 Despite Bringing Up Baby being such a hilarious and popular film, it has only received two awards. In 1989 the film won the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. In
