The U.S. beer companies are competing with small-batch “craft- beers” imported brews, wine and spirits. Because of this the barrels of beer sold in the U.S. is expected to grow only 1.5% this year according to the Beer Institute, an industry group. This low expectation of sales has rushed the merger to cut costs between SABMiller and Molson Coors. It is expected that if the two were to merge the annual costs savings would be $500 million by the third year of the merger.
