Primary Stuttering Behaviors Directly related to speec h All of these are individual to stutterer (not all stutterers have exact same characteristics) Characteristics that set apart stutterers: Part-word repetitions Syllables (with or without schwa vowel) Phonemes Prolongations Blocks (all of the sudden they can’t pronounce the word) People with severe blocks don’t know how long the block actually takes (how long it takes them to pronounce the word) Silent prolongations (breakdown of forward movement of speech) Fillers Word substitutions
