Liessa Floyd PLST 205-B02 Fall 2017 Our founding fathers believed strongly that virtue, learning, and piety were needed to shape our country. They emphasized the importance of these three essential elements throughout the beginning of the United States. These three important elements, as stated in the Northwest Ordinance, are also known as “morality”, “knowledge”, and “religion”. During this era, the term “morality” referred to Christian character, “knowledge” refers to having a Biblical worldview, and “religion” was a reference to Christianity. Our founding fathers vigorously embraced these three elements to inspire the people of the imperative support system of a prosperous nation. Without them, our government is surely to fail. John Adams, one of the founding fathers, said “Our constitution was made for only a moral and religious people. It was wholly inadequate for the government of any other” Mark A.
