PRODUCT DESIGN, SERVICE DESIGN, AND FACILITY DESIGN 2 Product Design Creating a new product is instrumental to an organization. Product design is the most important aspect of product development. “Designs can provide a competitive edge by bringing new ideas to the market quickly, doing a better job of satisfying customer needs, or being easier to manufacture, use, and repair” (Russell & Taylor, 2014. PG 159). A product design for a new wireless power drill that will last longer without having to be charged. New power drill that will be durable, environmental friendly and affordable as compared to the current power drills in the market. Steps to design new wireless power drill as follows 1- Idea generation – research the market, ask sales force, look at the competition and current customers to generate ideas (Russell & Taylor, 2014. PG 160). 2- Feasibility Study – Perform a market analysis, economic analysis, technical and strategic analysis (Russell & Taylor, 2014. PG 161). “Performance specifications are written for product concepts that pass the feasibility study and are approved for development” (Russell & Taylor, 2014. PG 162).
