1 Yanni Jordon Professor Krysten rogers ENG 121 14/Oct/2017 A Death Toll Fails to Narrow a Chasm on Gay Rights Nowadays, it is not uncommon to hear about a terrorist attack that recently happened, whether it be in America or some other country. A few days ago, Las Vegas suffered immense civilian losses from an attack that took place at a concert. 60 people were killed and over 200 others were injured. What defines what a terrorist attack is? If it is done towards a group of sexual minorities, is it still a terror attack, or a hate attack? Unfortunately, violent crimes of hate are also committed on a normal basis around the world, especially in America. These hate crimes stem from a lack of anti-discrimination laws, which are a steaming topic of debate between the two major political parties of the United States. In this essay, the authors are Jeremey Peters and Lizette Alvarez, they wrote this article in The New York Times newspaper. Does the blame actually belong to insufficient gun control laws and the constant squabbling and finger-pointing done by both Democrats and Republicans? An explanation in the article seems to indicate that Republicans are not friendly toward gay rights (but that they might be becoming friendlier). This essay was written right after huge massacre that happened at a club in Orlando, Florida, that is commonly occupied by homosexuals. The audience of the article could be anyone who reads The New York Times . The writer's tone is very formal, specific and highly biased toward political affairs. The authors stated
