Hu 1 Abby Hu English 205 Professor Cadena June 25 th , 2017 Playing in the Dark response Nobel Prize winning author Toni Morrison addresses serious issues related to race in her novel Playing in the Dark. In this novel, she introduces the notion of “Africanism” and how it emerges in literature that has traditionally been seen in terms of its “whiteness”. She’s attempting to unlock a hidden piece of American history, to expand our knowledge of the foundations on which this country stands. She’s created a new way of thinking, a method that builds upon our current knowledge and discovers history’s lost voice. It’s a fascinating concept and one that invites further investigation. This work doesn’t end on the final page; it is a call to action. Through this piece, she asks questions that can only be answered through further research and investigation. This opens up a conversation that will bring us one step close to understanding how America got to this point and what we can do to bring this unspoken narrative to the light.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
