Ryan L. Barnes Effective Boss Through my lifetime, I have had many different supervisors. From my first job in a restaurant to my current job with the Kansas Highway Patrol, I believe I have learned something from all of them whether good or bad. I find it hard to be truly successful in any career with out having a supervisor that you can look up to, whether it is in your current field or a previous field. I think that I first learned what a supervisor consisted of was with my first job. I worked at Tippins restaurant, which was located by Towne East. Most of the supervisors that I work directly with had no idea how to neither lead people, nor communicate with them. When I first started, I was 15 years old and just worked on the weekends as a dishwasher. I realize that this was the lowest position in the restaurant and you always looked like a dirt bag no matter how hard you tried to stay clean. I felt that everyone treated my just how I looked. I felt that I was limited in proving to the supervisors that I could handle something else. At this point, I could not show initiative, but I could show responsibility simply by showing up for work when I was scheduled. I rarely had contact with my supervisor except when someone needed more dishes or when something needed cleaned.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
