Darwin suggests in his hypothesis of Emotional Expression that emotions evolved because they have an adaptive purpose in helping species survive and flourish. I would summarize this as the first step in becoming emotionally intellectual. Darwin explained that the expressions of both human and non-humans would induce a corresponding emotion; therefore making any expression will elevate or suppress an emotion. Darwin also recognized that the expression of emotions has communication value. (Nevid pg. 302). The Cannon-Bard theory of emotions, suggest emotions accompany bodily responses to triggering stimuli, but are not caused by them. (Nevid pg. 313) The belief that emotional and physiological reactions to triggering stimuli occur almost simultaneously. (Nevid pg. 308) I agree with theory; as I had an incident where I recognized the danger and immediately had a bodily response and then an overwhelming emotion of fear, allow me to explain.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
