Let you strike out against the Devil and the village will bless you for it! Act 1 They all live in a very religious town and society where court and religion go hand in hand, what this quote is saying is that whatever you decide with God or the Devil or how you act, the village is going to respond. It’s a very unified society so everyone will know your actions and will either condemn you for it or put praise on you for your actions, based on how righteous in was. Not even in a worldly manner, but religiously. “Ours is a divided empire in which certain ideas and emotions and actions are of God, and their opposites are of Lucifer” Act 1 page 31 Anything that is bad is considered evil which is in relation to the devil. How I interpret this is that in this culture or how they perceive things is anything less than Godly is evil, and that’s how they ran their village. “I am bound by the law, I cannot tell it” Act 2 page 57 Mary is explaining that she is made under the law to keep to herself. This is an interesting part of the book because it also gives insight on to how serious and how rules were so strict and how they’re meant to be followed, under any circumstances.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
